2024 - on going
A project of a “dream” playground, exploring possible environments of play between transcultural friendships. The playground‘s goal as an environment is to experiment with the inaccessibility of language to perform communication through the body and express a sensory response to the space.
Sage Lin is from Taiwan, and Alejandra Ramos has Mexican/Guatemalan heritage. The artists’ first interactions were awkward. They had difficulty understanding each other‘s rhythm of speech and decoding different displays of body language. Despite their socially uncomfortable beginnings, the artist formed a collaborative practice, building transcultural friendships through abstracted dimensions and active gestures.
Responding to their triumph of transcultural bond, Sage and Alejandra materialize their connection by starting out in Chicago as their playground with plans to expand to more parts of the world. How they move through space became the basis of an invitation to know more about each other.
